Meet Arminda or “Minday”. She had just completed high school when her father tragically passed away, leaving her mom and five siblings behind. In the grief of losing her father, Arminda was determined to find a way to support her family.

Minday and her mom did not give up, but decided to use their skills to support their family in any way they could. At first, this looked like starting a small street food stand selling banana treats. The work was exhausting, but soon  the humble beginnings of their stand became a community staple. Even still, times were challenging and they had to get creative.

Minda’s mom encouraged her to look at Dignity to see if they had any opportunities, and was determined to find ways to improve their circumstances. She embraced the opportunity and was met with a sense of belonging and purpose, saying “I devote myself every day. . . I’m happy with Dignity, and I believe I’ll stay long.”

Minday and her family were strengthened by community and devotions, and their optimism led the way for them to persevere. Minday cherished the idea of a life filled with warmth, love, and continued growth – “My dream is simple. A simple life. Just simple progress.”
