Easygoing, simple, and trustworthy. That’s Elmer.
No one would believe that before working at Dignity, he was jobless and would always wander the streets. He never thought of looking for a job back then because he never really thought much of himself. Having had little education, and no job for a long time, Elmer always thought that he had no skills to offer and he had little confidence in himself.
When he was given an opportunity to work at Dignity, he started out as a construction worker. He started coming to morning devotions before work which helped him learn about who he is and what he is capable of. He realized that he can be so much more than just a man spending idle days in the streets.
A few months after starting work at Dignity, he met his wife and soon became a father to three kids. Elmer told us, “We are just poor and I want to be able to give my family a good life.” With his newfound confidence and determination, he worked hard as ever, to prove to himself that he can and to provide for his family.
Now over four years, Elmer works as a plumber and a waste treatment facility worker. He ensures the cleanliness of the oil separators, discharges the wastewater, cleans the water tank drainage, and monitors two submersible pumps. With cleanliness being one of the important aspects in making the coconut oils, this just goes to show how much Elmer can be trusted. Now, Elmer would always say, “I want to show everyone, that I can do whatever task is given to me”, and that’s exactly what he continually does.
He remains grateful to Dignity because of how working here has impacted his life.
From being jobless, he is now a hard-working employee; and from being a wanderer, he is now a provider. Truly, as he said, “working with Dignity has made me very happy”.
Now Elmer has the confidence to handle whatever life throws at him, and just the same, he can handle whatever work is given to him.
