Meet Teresa. When her husband passed away, leaving her widowed with two children, she was left to care for her family alone. This was a dark time and Teresa was grieving the loss of her husband while also fearful about how they would make it. She said, “When my husband passed away, I did not know how or where or what to do to raise my children because I had no job then.” Her options seemed limited, but she was willing to do anything.

Teresa began to take on odd jobs she could find just to make ends meet, but it still felt like there was not enough money to go around. She wanted to be able to send her kids to school, put a roof over their heads, and always have food on the table. That was when she found Dignity. She joined the laundry section and thrived in her new job– quickly becoming known as one of the most detailed and thorough employees.

When a woman becomes widowed, it is often easy for a cycle of poverty to begin. But, even during a hopeless time, Teresa shares that her “children are her source of strength” which gave her the confidence to do anything. Dignity became a lifeline for her family and has helped provide her family with opportunities and security they would not have had otherwise.
