I used to think that Hawkeye was a terrible Avenger. How is this guy with no superpowers going to last one minute against a villain with super human abilities, let alone help fight. Thanks to the new series, he has come to be my favorite because I can relate to him. No flying, no super speed, and no super strength. He's simply a guy who mastered skills to solve the world’s problems (yes, and he has a few cool trick arrows).
When we talk about world issues such as slavery and human trafficking, the numbers are often so overwhelming. It's easy to think we need an Iron Man to solve this, but the truth is, we need more Clint Bartons. Regular people, like you and me, who just want to make a difference in the world.
January 11 is National Human Trafficking Awarenes Day and the whole month of January is recognized as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Right now, there are approximately 20 to 40 million slaves in the world*. Unfortunately, after more than 800 years slavery and human trafficking still exist and continues to exploit millions of people around the globe.
This is why Dignity was born. We wanted to give those who are enslaved an opportunity to get out of this vicious cycle that they are in (know more about copra slavery). At the same time, we wanted you to have the opportunity to make a difference in these people’s lives. On top of every Dignity Raw Coconut Oil jar are the names of real people who now have a source of livelihood, can put their children to school without taking on predatory loans, and more importantly, are not exploited for the work that they do. These are the people who worked to create the jar of coconut oil you now use.
So on National Human Trafficking Awareness Day and National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, know that you can make a difference in this world and change people’s lives - even without a cape.
